Prashi Shah & Suraj Jagannathan
Prashi Shah laughs when she tells the story of how she met her husband. Suraj Jagannathan was sitting alone at the Deep Ellum bar where she’d gone to hear music. But a calendar mix-up meant that the band she expected to hear wasn’t playing, though his cousin’s was, which was just as well because no one else showed. Their differences were apparent. She’s in fashion; he was a sports director. His family is originally from South India; hers is from Bombay, in the North. But they proved the adage that opposites attract. Two years later, on July 6, 2007, an auspicious day because of its relation to their horoscopes (most Hindu weddings take place when the stars are perfectly aligned), they were married.
As is typical in Indian culture, the wedding lasted four days, July 4-7, incorporating customs from both North and South India, with the occasional contemporary twist–and a dazzling wardrobe designed by Prashi for herself, the groom, flowergirl, family members, and some of her guests.
